The use of jewelry as a fashionable complement to one's general outlook has been in vogue since time immemorial. But beyond fashion, there are groups that attach much more significance to jewelry; these groups give a deeper [and profoundly spiritual] meaning to several precious stone-plated articles that are sometimes used in religious celebrations. An obvious example is the use (of jewelry) by some Christian denominations and/or individuals. Jewelry could mean different things to a Christian based on the symbol that has been wrought onto it (the jewelry).

There is a good number of jewelry marked with Christian insignia that are in use today. The most common of them is the cross which is a symbol of the crucifixion of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Aside the cross however, jewelry that have the symbol of a fish are known to somewhat serve as a memorial of the (early) times in which Christians were persecuted for their faith. At that time, such symbol is used to communicate areas that served as refuge for Christians. Jewelry with the fish symbol are still being used today in places where Christians are persecuted for their belief.

Again, another significant Christian jewelry is the Purity ring. The purity ring is worn by some individuals [especially virgins] as a seal of their dedication to abstain from extramarital affairs. The purity ring is replaced with the wedding ring as such individual take his/her marital vow.

Furthermore, the use of different kinds of medals, necklaces and some other pieces of jewelry is commonplace among Catholics. These group of believers often attach some protective and/or guardianship significance to a wide range of medals. Also, jewelry plated [with gold and silver] are used in religious rites, and as a source of adornment by the Church's hierarchy.

All these have serve as a sort of lure for jewellers who now fabricate different kinds of jewelry that appeal to the fancy of Christians.
